And now, a message from our sponsors…

MiniCards is still alive – apologies for being quiet recently. Work has been ongoing on Cribbage and you can now download the public Beta from the Play Store and try it out. Simply revisit the Play Store listing after you’ve installed MiniCards and the button in the listing (pictured below) should then allow you to join the Beta programme. After you join, you can then upgrade to latest Beta version (you may have to wait a few minutes for it to activate and become available). It now boasts AI players and a cribbage board complete with pegs!

One of the reasons for moving to Beta releases is that MiniCards is introducing in-app purchases and Cribbage will be an add-on when it is finally ready. At some point MiniCards needs to pay the bills as I’m not working on anything else. I could have gone down the route of bombarding you with full-screen interstitial video ads every 5 minutes or finding extra space to jam banner ads on an already packed screen. It’s not an avenue I’m keen on pursuing as I think it can be annoying and detracts from the overall experience.

Going forwards, MiniCards will be available in two versions – a free version which will just contain the basic games and Sandbox. There will also be a premium version which will have access to all extra features. Ultimately there might be options for something in-between. If you have the premium version then you will be able to share premium games and features with people who only have the free version, both on the internet and in P2P modes.

The good news is that if you download MiniCards before Cribbage is released, you will be automatically upgraded to the full version! Hooray! And that means you will continue to receive additional features for free as they are developed.

Also, on an unrelated note, I’m currently looking for a graphic designer to work on providing some much-needed graphical polish, so if you are interested, get in touch.
